Round 3 :iconsenshi-pageant:

FIRSTLY - SORRY PREPARE FOR INCOMING TEXTWALL. You were warned.

Secondly, contains Blocking Sketch notes - aka what I was braining while sketching this out as a music video but obviously did not commit to because that would be insane.

Believer by Myrath, off the album Legacy

Burning fire
In your eye
Melt away overnight
Carve your life
Sharpened knife

[Blocking sketch:] Close-up: flames reflected in Gabby's eyes, zooming out to her as Sailor Takhisis.

Gabby has always been a bit of a forceful person - she's got a lot of fire in her personality - and it tends to show when she's tested. Conversely, this verse also relates to the idea that some of that fire in herself does melt "overnight" first with the realization that The Call Knows Where She Lives and then with the later notion that she's in way over her head. Still, Gabby is an adept at soldiering on and carving out her own path, as it were, since she's had loads of practice ignoring The Call To Magical Girlhood; this also comes back into play later on with her decision to abandon the past attached to Takhisis.

Like a thrill
In a fight
It's the moment to blow our minds
Faith is blind

[Blocking sketch:] Sailor Takhisis running through shot; close-up, she raises her hand, one of the ribbons spiraling out as it shoots forward through shot towards viewer.

Gabby's strongest moments come in conflict. She is used to making split second decisions on the basketball court, which translates well to this very new part of her life where everything is split decisions. Since she doesn't know what she's doing with as a Sailor Senshi (and her teammates are less than helpful in training her), she puts a lot of stock in the idea that she'll somehow know what to do - after all, that's how these things are supposed to work, she supposes hopefully. At least, that's how it's rumored to work for other magical girls.

Faith is also a huge component of her personality - particularly faith in herself - which ties in to the next bit.

What doesn't kill you makes you stronger
Your victory will live forever
Keep fighting for the riot inside

[Blocking sketch:] Close-up: Sailor Takhisis crouching, with fire behind her. Second shot: she stands, turning back with determination.

In relation to Gabby's story, this verse would align with her stubbornness and her faith in herself. What doesn't kill you makes you stronger is certainly a phrase she tells herself as a newly minted magical girl and every fight she walks away from is a victory, even if she doesn't win the fight itself. And yet, as much faith as she has in herself, as stubborn as she is, there is a conflict in her heart. Being a magical girl is something she didn't want to begin with and, ultimately, she didn't get much of a choice in the matter (even if it was the right decision, at least as far as doing the right thing). Persisting in the face of that is a victory unto itself.

Believe and carry on
Jump on the bandwagon
History goes on
Believe and carry on

[Blocking sketch:] Close-up: Sailor Takhisis's face as she raises an arm. White flash cut to Gabby, Ceci and Merllun panning through shot, one at a time.

Regardless, Gabby has set herself on this path and so she remains committed to it. Her best friend, Ceci, and her one-time romantic attachment, Merllun, are nominally along for the ride; in the former case, voluntarily and with great enthusiasm, and in the latter case, because he's got orders - at least, at first, anyway. Both are part of her support network in different ways and, as events unfold, Merllun's place in particular is under strain: what he is a part of isn't something that can be forgotten in both Gabby and Ceci's eyes.

Bird of night
Broken chains
There's no time to deny
Past is gone
The future's bright

[Blocking sketch:] Establishing shot: birds crossing shot frame, against the sky. A Black-Robed Wizard [Raistlin] is shown. Close-up: Wizard [Raistlin] smiling. Establishing shot: open dirt road.

This verse would echo Gabby's decision to cast off the fate handed to her by Doing The Right ThingTM, which opens up the possibility of a brighter future. It is a symbolic breaking of chains.

Throw away
Yesterday
Create your brand new name
There's no shame
So light the flame

[Blocking sketch:] Pan shot: Sailor Takhisis panning right to left across screen, fading into color; [Mysterious Knight] pans left to right in black and white. Long shot: Sailor Takhisis embraces her friends in the bright new world.

Linking to the previous verse and theme, Gabby throws away her past "self" as Takhisis (her "yesterday") to embrace her future as Sailor Takhisis, a brand new name for a brand new self. And she's very not sorry about it, either, so there is no proverbial shame associated with moving forward.

You know you're gonna win or you'll learn
Your victory will live forever
Keep fighting for the riot inside

[Blocking sketch:] Overhead shot: Sailor Takhisis turns out of the way of a sword thrust from [Mysterious Knight]. Close-up: Sailor Takhisis shouting, raising a hand.

Gabby doesn't always win or make the right call: she's inexperienced as a senshi and discovering the truth of who and what Takhisis was is, ultimately, a shaking blow to her sense of self and faith in herself. And, worse, due to the situation at hand, she's not able to immediately deal with that, which is one of her core conflicts. But she does learn from her mistakes and she does keep fighting on, coming to terms with what Takhisis is and was and, ultimately, what that means for her.

Believe and carry on
Jump on the bandwagon
History goes on
Believe and carry on (If you believe then you can reach anything you want)

[Blocking sketch:] Wide shot: silhouetted [Mysterious Knight] and Sailor Takhisis run at each other from opposite sides of screen. White burst cut. Long pan, initial close-up of Gabby falling down through clouds. Close-up: her eyelids flutter.

Of course, she doesn't get off that easy. History marches on and there are more conflicts ahead for her, so if she intends to wrest a happy ending out of this mess (and it's certainly a possibility) she has to continue to believe not only in herself, but that she can reach that goal.

ميراث ميراث نورك ساطع وغالي

[Blocking sketch:] Pan shot: desert of the Abyss, rising up into the sky, to show the constellations of Krynn's night sky. Shot shifts down, zooming down through the planet's atmosphere and cloud cover.

Translating the solo, the idea of [the addressed] having a precious, bright light would, in Gabby's case, relate to both the sailor crystal (a bright, shining light) and also several other things. Takhisis did actually have a constellation, which disappeared when she canonically died (and also for various canonical plot-related shenanigans - it's a long story, see Dragonlance: Chronicles vol. 1-3), which can then tie back into the light of stars and starseeds. It can also be applied to with Gabby's resilience, faith and inherent goodness - she, herself, is a bright light and all the more precious for it.

What doesn't kill you makes you stronger
Your victory will live forever
Keep fighting for the riot inside

[Blocking sketch:] Pan shot: Dragon heads rising through the clouds as shot continues through.

If Gabby can survive her misadventures and take what victories she can, she will definitely earn her place as a proud senshi and person.

Believe and carry on (You'll win or you'll learn)
Jump on the bandwagon (The candle will be burnt)
History goes on (You'll win or you'll learn)
Believe and carry on

[Blocking sketch:] Shot continues, spiraling up and around a mountain, to a flat plateau and passes each member of cast. Final shot pulls out on a shot of full cast on the plateau.

And, of course, she's not going anywhere without her squad. They may be disasters, but they're in this mess together. Win or lose, come what may, they will carry on. Besides, Gabby wouldn't be able to do it without them.

------------
AND NOW FOR THE ARTIST NOTES:

hello I'm Twin and I'm kinda supposed to be confined to bedrest because I spent most of the week super ill but here I am like the human disaster I am. I'm also in a crapload of pain and it took everything I had not to go to the ER and finish this because moving my arm at all is pure agony on a level I heretofore haven't experienced (SCREAMING), but the deadline's today and I have been so sick I haven't been anywhere near my computer (for reasons related to absolute ill).

Also, I messed up and failed to save often enough (SCREEECHHHHHHHH) and now Gabby's all one unfixable layer that I had neither the time or actually any remaining pain tolerance to handle redoing. My arm is in an ice bucket right now actually. It's not helping.

Okay, ANYWAY, I took shortcuts this round with coloring and shading and everything because TBH I belong in bed and every minute motion of my elbow is literally pure agonizing hell, so minimizing the amount of brushstrokes and color work and background was an unfortunate necessity to spare myself that much more pain - going at it like a frame for one shot of an opening sequence, where the only movement is artificial to the individual pictures of the characters in the shot frame, helped. I am deeply sorry for that, judges, because this could have been so much better and obviously I'm a sick and very injured trainwreck, so I just...

I tried. As best I was able. And I am obviously going back to the doctor because THERE IS NO WAY I CAN IGNORE THIS ELBOW ANYMORE. Not for all the ale in Thorbardin. I did go back and welp I'm in bandages with about of Rheumatoid Arthritis related tendonitis - so... next round, huh, gonna be fun eh... AHAHHA hopefully I'm better?

SO, who is that mysterious man and why is he so obviously an edgelord? He's related to Takhisis. Sorta... like... her brother.

He's her brother.

Gabby doesn't have a brother.

OH SNAP.

He's not in color  because... he hasn't been revealed yet in their timeline so OF COURSE NOT.

(Merllun Uth Velgar is a human disaster btw. He does end up on a Life Changing Field Trip with Uncle Ir-RAISTLIN - YES, UNCLE RAISTLIN (somewhere Palin, his actual nephew, feels a sudden sense of dread; he shouldn't worry - it's very unlikely this poor disaster child is actually really a cousin or the prince of some fiery nation; Raistlin is dead and still trolls the living mercilessly, news at 11.))

Also, I don't speak Arabic, so the translation of the solo/chorus is something I had to go digging around for.
